Wow - this week we will have our last auction for 2013! After week 5, a shop system will be used for you to spend credits at. So... what will be up for grabs this one last time? You can view what we have had at other auctions by clicking on the auction tag. Let me know what you would like auctioned by leaving a comment.
Totara would like to wish these great athletes good luck for the County sports on Friday. We hope that you do your B.E.S.T and get some good results. We also look forward to hearing about it on Monday or you could leave us a comment over the weekend.
GOOD LUCK TO: William, Jack, Hemi, Teresa, Penny, Abbie, Edmon, Tamaki and Hannah!
On Friday, we have 1/2 of our class away at the County Athletics. So... we can't do the normal things we would do on a Friday. We are still going to have fun-writing Friday and today we are going to use iMovie on the iPads to create a movie about how to do something.
Here is an example that I made last night at home:
Here are our choices for AAA songs in week 6. Leave a comment with your top two votes. Make sure you say the name of the song clearly! Click on the AAA songs to listen to them before you vote.
Each person can vote for 2 songs.
On Thursday, we had a new teacher - Miss Wallington! Yes, that's right - our very own Abbie was a teacher for an hour. Abbie won a voucher at the last auction to teach the class something new. She taught everyone how to make a sock monster. It was really good to see people learning some new skills like how to hand sew, use the glue gun or sew on a button. The sock monsters look great and are perfect for Halloween!
Check out some finished sock monsters...
Yesterday we added up our athletics cards to find out the champions from each age group. In our class, we had a number of people score 15 points or more, which means that they got a lot of 2's and 3's on their card.
Congratulations to our champions:
Overall, Jasmin (R9) and Ryan (R8) were the Arrowsmith champions. Well done to everyone who took part, it was a great day of sports on Tuesday.
Today we finished off our 5 Passes challenge. We had worked out that we needed to score 22 points to overtake R8. That is a lot of points to score in this game - we only scored 7 in our first game. So we changed around the teams a little and went out to play R9.
We got really close... our final score was 19. We won the game against R9 but we were just 3 points short of beating R8. Well done to Harakeke - they won 5 Passes. We look forward to your next challenge in a couple of weeks.
We had a fun writing session today to help us learn how to write quality instructions.
Because jelly is really easy to make, we added some things to make us write more. Options were - adding peaches and wine gums.
We brainstormed verbs to do with making jelly. Some of our ideas were:
pour, sprinkle, put, tip, chop, cut, boil, mix, stir, dissolve
Then we listed all the ingredients and equipment we would need and had a go at writing the starting instructions. Next we went to the hall and made the jelly in 4 groups.
When we came back, we added new ideas to our instructions.
Now to find out if we get to eat the jelly....?
