With Mrs Wise this week, we made fraction flowers. Each flower has a problem to solve. Check out some of them. How many can you correctly answer? We are learning about fractions, decimals and proportions in maths this term. Today we started the topic with some fun! We each had a small packet of Smarties which we used to make fractions. We wrote fractions about how many of each colour we had and learnt about the denominator, which is the bottom number in the fraction. Pink and red were the most common colour of Smarties. We tried to use mathematical language like greater than, less than, most etc to explain our thinking. Check out some photos: WALT - division with remainders. We are learning to write the remainder as a fraction. After viewing the video, try these examples together. Write the remainder as a fraction. Discuss the ones you don't all get the same answers on! 49/5= 27/4= 72/10= 66/7= 19/2= The Crusaders began to learn a new division strategy today. It is called division in parts. You have to break the biggest number (the part to be shared) into parts to make it easier to divide. Check out some of our examples. Can you follow our recording? WALT - divide in parts Work together to solve these. Record your thinking on a whiteboard - do you all agree? This symbol (/) will be used for the divided by sign.1. 92 / 4 = 2. 145 / 5 = 3. 108 / 6 = 4. 162 / 3 = |
